Disney pulls "Jessie" episode that makes fun of gluten-free child

Outrage by some parents over what they deem derogatory statements about children who need gluten-free diets that were created on the Disney Channel show "Jessie" has led the company to pull the episode off the air.

"To our viewers, we received your feedback about tonight's 'Jessie' episode which some of you accessed early on Video-on-Demand," Disney said in a statement on its official Facebook page. "we're removing this specific episode from our steady programming schedule and will re-evaluate its references to gluten restrictions in the character's diet. Please accept our apologies for the upset this episode caused you and your family. We value your feedback and thank you for watching Disney Channel."

The "Jessie" episode, called "Quitting bloodless Koala," revolved around a teen nanny who was tasked with taking care of a child named Stuart, who needs a gluten-free diet. Several jokes are created about his condition, including the leading character Jessie pointing out that Stuart had a five-page list of his dietary requirements.

At any given time, the gang at Pixar has roughly half a dozen movies in various stages of development, numerous of which the public is unaware of. Brave director slams Disney's sexy Merida makeover

Paul Liberatore in The Marin Independent Journal:

Marin filmmaker Brenda Chapman, who won an Oscar for writing and co-directing the lively feature "courageous," bfinaled Disney's sexy makeover of her film's feisty heroine, Merida, as "a blatantly sexist marketing move based on money." ... "I think it is atrocious what they've done to Merida ... When little girls say they like it because it is more sparkly, that is all fine and good but, subconsciously, they're soaking in the sexy 'come-hither' look and the skinny aspect of the new version. it is horrible!"

it is really blistering, bridge-burning stuff, and I salute her for it: "I forget that Disney's goal is to make money without concern for integrity."
