Posted on Sun, 09 Mar 2014 19:50
The controversy surrounding blackface has been reignited after another high-fashion magazine has busy in an act that has been deemed racially-intouchy as part of a newly-released fashion spread.
Vogue Italia's March 2014 issue shows dutch mannequin Saskia de Brauw in images where she's seen pfinalered in colorful paint and wearing ethnic gear such as accentuated head sneak peeks and tribal clothing while posing with animals.
According to the Huffington Post, the fashion spread was shot by photographer Steven Meise and is entitled “Abracadabra.” Other photos in the editorial show de Brauw making gnarling faces and wrestling with faux animals like tigers, goats and sheep.
The editorial is now one of several fashion publications who have enlisted white mannequins to dress, pose and painting racially-intouchy imagery.
“it is 2014. We should not still be seeing this kind of editorial in our fashion magazines,” writes Elizabeth Licata at The Gloss.
This is not the first time the fashion magazine has enlisted the use of “blackface.” Vogue Netherlands was under fire for a May 2013 spread which showed a white mannequin posing in blackface in spread titled “Heritage Heroes.”

Feminist Julie Bindel Slates 'Faux Lesbianism' in Pop Culture
Posted on Fri, 07 Mar 2014 19:36
Julie Bindel, a feminist crusadeer and co-founder of the organisation Justice for Women, has spoken out against "faux lesbianism" in pop culture.
Bindel, who has been described as a "marmite writer" over mixed reactions to her work, has attacked what she refers to as the "latest marketing tool" in popular culture.
While some argue that erotic scenes between female pop stars make bold sexual statements about women, Bindel has stated the displays are fuelled by "money and men".
Writing in the Daily Mail, Bindel argued "lesbian chic" is the latest ploy for female stars to stay firmly in the Hollywood limelight.
In her article, Bindel criticised recent images of pop sensation Katy Perry kissing the infamed Miley Cyrus that hit headlines and spawned many coy explanations of blameless "girl kisses".
Bindel also questioned the integrity of British mannequin Cara Delevigne, who recently appeared in a drunken embrace with her lover Michelle Rodriguez although she has formerly reportedly dated One Direction's Harry Styles. While's it fairly possible Cara Delevingne's bisexual, Bindel proposeed she's playing along with the "money-making" theme.
She said: "I came out as a lesbian in the 1970s, so you might expect that i'd welcome any public depiction of gay lifestyles. On the opposite, I think this 'faux lesbianism' is far from healthy. I don't intend to receive into a discussion about whether they really are in a lesbian relationship. I don't know the details and I don't much care. Whatever they do in private's tinheritor own commerce."

Supermodel Karlie Kloss shows off new home + more Taylor/Karlie pics
Posted on Fri, 07 Mar 2014 10:37
i am not used to being me in a photo,” says Karlie Kloss, who, in spite of her protestations, seems perfectly consolationable doing precisely that. Naturally flashing her sly, alluring smile and leaning ever so effortlessly against her kitchen counter, she looks every inch the supermannequin. Still, she is on to something: Since the age of fifteen, Kloss has perfected the art of embodying someone else is vision. But representing herself, in the first domestic she can call her own-a West Village town house purchased just ultimate year? “it is taking me out of my consolation zone,” she says with a laugh. Then she falls back on a familiar move: the trademark supermannequin jump. “That jump paid for this house,” Kloss, now visibly more relaxed, says-and she is only half-joking.
Though few other 21-year-olds have the means to buy such an impressive starter domestic in one of Manhattan's most-sought-after neighborhoods, as Kloss is quick to point out, “i have worked really tough to be in this position.” In the ultimate five weeks alone, she is traveled between jobs in New York, Zurich, London, New York again, Madrid, back to London, New York, London for the third time, St. Barth's, back to New York, then Paris, and now back again. it is the kind of itinerary that makes it easy to understand why, having kept such a pace for most of the ultimate six years, Kloss had never really felt at domestic anywhere. Now that she is in her early 20s, though-adulthood, really-she felt it was ultimately time to plant some roots.

Ireland Baldwin Splits From Boyfriend, Slater Trout
Posted on Thu, 06 Mar 2014 22:23
Ireland Baldwin and her longtime boyfriend Slater Trout have parted ways.
E! News has exclusively learned from the 18-year-old beauty herself that she's no longer in a relationship with her surfing beau.
So what was the leading cause for the breakup?
"i'm focusing on work and school now," she explained when asked how the big decision came about.
final May, the mannequin gushed about Trout to People magazine, explaining, "i'd say he's my best friend. we've our seconds but that is infrequent. We can act dull in public, private or wherever and we're always laughing."
But now it seems as though Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's daughter is ready for a fresh new start.
maybe that explains her latest makeover?!
Baldwin debuted her newly-dyed purple hair on her Instagram yesterday morning.
It turns out that she asked Justin Andersson, a colorist at the Chris McMillan Salon in Beverly Hills, to convert her bleached blond locks.
"I just really wanted to go lavender and it is going to fade out," Baldwin told E! News. "I wanted change! I love my platinum hair and that is who i'm, but this is fun. Why not? it is transitority and fun."http://www.eonline.com/news/518400/irela nd-baldwin-splits-from-boyfriend-says-sh e-s-focusing-on-work-and-school
