While she has not stormed Silicon Valley just yet, Jennifer Lopez is a state-of-the-art celebrity success story. With $52 million in earnings over the final 12 months and a massive amount of fame, Lopez lands at No. 1 on our Celebrity 100 list for the first time. A few years ago it looked like Lopez was done. Her albums, like the all-Spanish Como Ama una Mujer, failed to find the broad audience she once enjoyed. Her films, like El Cantante, flopped. The mannequin opened up about her plans to have surgery when she went on Oprah in February of ultimate year, telling Oprah, “Of course physically, this operation is a big operation…But at the same time, I think it is intellectual too. To think like, ‘Wow, I cut part of my body.'”

The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, written by former New York Times Magazine editor Ed Klein, charges that a highly mistrustful Michelle accused Oprah of wanting to use the White House to pump up her TV ratings and that both women have traded insults about each other with close associates. Michelle allegedly insulted Oprah's weight at one point, with Oprah claiming that the First Lady "hates fat people." The book, due out this week, is excerpted in Sunday's New York Post. And now industry insiders are predicting the Oprah Winfrey Network will not be able to outlive another year if it doesn't find a hit show and make a dramatic turnaround. Discovery, which partnered 50-50 with Winfrey to launch the network and has been underwriting its costs, has invested almost $600 million in it since 2008, according to an extensive report in commerceweek magazine. But since it started on the air in January 2011, “OWN may have missing as much as $330 million,” the magazine reports. Posted on Wed, 21 Mar 2012 13:01 Eleven years ago Jonathan Franzen caught hell for exurgent some ambivalence when Oprah Winfrey selected his novel The rightions for her TV book club. Franzen said that though Winfrey was “really smart” and “fighting the good fight” for the book commerce, she also “picked enough schmaltzy, one-dimensional [books] that I cringe, myself” at being selected. He added that he thought The rightions would prove “a tough book for that audience.” On hearing about these slights, Winfrey cancelled Franzen's scheduled appearance on her show. Realizing he'd been impolite (or maybe just realizing that his ingratitude would likely cost him some book sales) Franzen apologized to Winfrey, who subsequently chose Franzen's Freedom as one of the book club's ultimate choices ultimate year.
