 Oprah Winfrey Plans to Start Organic Produce Line Posted on Thu, 23 May 2013 02:17  Superstar media-mogul Oprah Winfrey may be dipping her hand, especially her green thumb, in another totally unrelated commerce: agriculture. The 59-year-old recently revealed that she has plans to turn some 16 acres on her 1,000-acre property on Maui into farmland. The idea, which came from her friend and health expert Bob Greene, was to grow crops on an island that imports roughly 90 percent of its food. “We realized if we could grow scrumptious food ourselves, we could share it," Winfrey wrote in the May issue of O, the Oprah Magazine. She hired the natural resource management group Bio-Logical Capital to help oversee the harvest, which includes more than 100 species of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. they are planting the, er, seeds of change on one side of the dormant volcano called Haleakala at some 4,000 feet above sea level. correct now she is giving away the crops-about 145 pounds per week from just one acre-for free to restaurants and charitable efforts, but Greene expressed in a recent video submitted on People.com that they plan to begin selling the produce under a yet-to-be-determined brand name, such as “Oprah's biologicals” and “Oprah's Harvest.” We'll likely not see her use “Oprah's OWN,” which is the name of her TV network, because it would be too close to another celebrity's famed biological food line, actor Paul Newman's Newman's Own. Topping the list, of course, is none other than Oprah Winfrey. it's the moment year in a row that Oprah has snagged the title. Forty-eight percent of people rated Winfrey as "influential," according to the magazine is survey this year. The survey ranks 7,500 celebrities by 46 different attributes. Oprah was down just one point from 2012. Barbara Walters, who came in at number eight with a 37 percent influential rating (Forbes also famous that her "notable attribute" is "lessony"), was the other media heavyweight who created the top ten most influential celebrities. Two of Oprah's proteges also created the top ten: Dr. Mehmet Oz clocked in at number seven with forty percent of respondents rating him influential, while Suze Orman came in at number nine. As she hinted on the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, the OWN healer will work with troubled rapper DMX, as well as former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Sheree Whitfield in the first two episodes of the new season of her hit show. ESSENCE.com has learned that the season's opener, featuring DMX, airs on April 13 at 9 p.m. and will final 90 minutes. Vanzant travels to DMX's domestictown of Yonkers, New York to help him work through a number of issues.
