Girls vs. 3 Stooges
Posted on Mon, 14 May 2012 11:04

A while back, there was a ridiculous debate in the media about whether women could be funny, but then Bridesmaids was a enormous hit and people somehow remembered Lucy and Roseanne and Tina Fey, and the whole shit blew over. But having just seen The Three Stooges, i've a more crucial question: Can men be funny?

'Dark Shadows' Is Another Lazy, Incoherent Disappointment From Tim Burton

'Dark Shadows' Is Another Lazy, Incoherent Disappointment From Tim Burton

“Dark Shadows” isn't the worst film that Tim Burton has ever made, but that is only because there isn'thing worse than “Alice in Wonderland.”
A desperate jumble of ideas in search of deeper substance, much less focus, Burton's latest collaboration with actor Johnny Depp is the latest, and maybe fantasticest, proof that yet exists for a director, Burton's a hell of a production designaler. Given the film's incredible lack of cohesion - or follow-through - the film feels like the resignaled end result of a studio's best efforts to whittle an unwieldly mess into something manageable, but far too numerous of its shortcomings releading exposed for it to play as anything other than a showcase for the star and filmmaker's laziness, hubris, or both.

The Weeknd @ Hollywood Forever

The Weeknd @ Hollywood Forever

The buzzy story out of Saturday night's Hollywood Forever set by the hang-outing, villainous R&B act the Weeknd was that Drake came by for an extended guest vocal slot. But Drake is more interesting turn on the mike came correct afterward.

"I remember the first time I heard the Weeknd," he said in a quick soliloquy to a rapt sold-out audience (save for the one attendee who tried to throw a drink at him) lol wut. "I was in Toronto, and it was raining. I heard two songs, 'What You Need' and 'The Party & the After Party,' and I thought, 'This is fantasticest shit to happen to music in a long time.' "

R&B singer leadingtains mystique while selling out two NYC shows
By SOWMYA KRISHNAMURTHY

Abel Tesfaye, otherwise known as the Weeknd, has built his career upon a indifferent mystique, hardly showing his face, giving nary an interview and releasing music online capriciously. final night at Bowery Ballroom, it was lucid that this ploy of always keeping them wanting more has paid off.

I wasn't high for this )

shitty pic: yours truly

He was amazing. His band is incredible, and they created all of the songs sound a million times better. I wish the show was longer though. wasn't expecting to see Diddy there (with some blonde mannequin who I could not recognize, among others). He was feeling the fuck out of the performance. Abel better not signal with poor Boy though, because we all know that Diddy is a career murderer.

"The Five-Year Engagement" Review

"The Five-Year Engagement" Review

The Five-Year Engagement is an ambitious movie by Hollywood rom-com standards. The script, by director Nicholas Stoller and lead actor Jason Segel, aims for charm and pain and laughs and truth. The presentation is slick, with the beauty of San Francisco and small town Michigan backdropping the comedy, captured with above-average photography that screams, "This is not your run-of-the-mill Katherine Heigl flick!" Five-Year Engagement is a shotgun bultimate of grand ideas, every element spread so thin it ends up being not that charming, not that painful, not that funny and not that truthful.

Tom (Segel), a professional cook, and his girlfriend Violet (Emily Blunt), a hopeful psychology student, have been dating for one year before the question is ultimately popped. They seem perfect for one another, understanding the other's perspectives, sharing sensibilities and helping each other loving life to the fullest. The couple is wedding planning process is slow and stable, but when the date is ultimately in sight Violet finds herself with an offer to attend the University of Michigan. The wrench in the life plan sets the nuptials back, much to the chagrin of Violet's mother (Oscar-nominee Jacki Weaver), who pushes her daughter to tie the knot before all the grandparents are dead. The potential move does not sit well with Tom either - leaving San Fran means quitting a high prodossier cook job and saying goodbye to his best bud Alex (Chris Pratt) and Violet's sister Suzie (Alison Brie). But the compromise is eventually made, and Tom and Violet find themselves driving into the bloodless, snowy unknown of Michigan.

Nicki Minaj hits sophomore slump

Following a successful debut, most artists or bands would live in fear of the dreaded sophomore slump. For Nicki Minaj, the prescertain is piled on even thicker.

Minaj's debut album “Pink Friday” had the moment-highest sales week for a female hip-hop artist (behind only Lauryn Hill), topping the invoiceboard 200 and selling more than 1 million copies.

With the release of “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,” the sequel to her debut, the Trinidadian-born rapper tries to use guest appearances by Big Sean, David Guetta and Madonna to ride the success of her final album - but fails.
