Paris Hilton and Roseanne Barr are very different personalities, but tinheritor shows both struck out with viewers. Hilton's series was pretty much dead on arrival, earning nakedly 400,000 viewers for its June debut and sinking even lower in subsequent airings. The network is not officially remarking on its destiny, but Vulture can exclusively report what's been apparent to even the most amateur ratings watcher for weeks: Oxygen has no plans for a moment season of The World According to Paris, unscripted industry insiders familiar with the situation confirm. So what about Barr's show? It premiered to respectable but not especially good numbers, with about 1.5 million folks watching Barr and her family putz around on a nut farm. More people watched repeats of Pawn Stars on Lifetime the night Roseanne debuted, which turned out to be an omen: In subsequent weeks, viewership dropped well below a million viewers. Indeed, the most recent episode, airing on August 10, attracted a mere 764,000 viewers. Another ominous signal: Lifetime preempted Roseanne ultimate week, subbing in a repeat of Dance Moms. We thought this might be a signal that Lifetime wanted to experiment with different programming in the 9 p.m. Wednesday slot normally occupied by Roseanne, or that it was hoping to boost viewership for the 10 p.m. original of Dance Moms. But nope, Lifetime says there was completely no strategy behind the ultimate-moment shift: "It was a program delivery issue," a network spokesman e-mailed Vulture, noting it will air as scheduled this week. that is normally code for, "The producers could not get the episode done in time," but since the Lifetime rep didn't elaborate, we'll just let "program delivery issue" szenith for itself. In any case, with Roseanne having experienced a 50 percent drop in viewership since its premiere, it would seem that its chances for a moment season are about the same as The World According to Paris. For now, notwithstanding, Lifetime is leadingtaining its happiness with the show: "No decision on season two yet but we're happy with its performance this season," the network rep said. in the meantime, not all is glum in the world of basic cable reality. While the Paris burn-out had to be a bummer for Oxygen, network chief Jason Klarman has good reason to throw a major rager for his staff this Labor Day weekend: The Glee Project, which started slowly, has turned into a bona fide smash for the network. Sunday's ultimatee gave the network its best-ever tune-in for a first-year reality show, with 1.2 million viewers checking out the feel-good farewell; that is triple the number who watched the show's premiere. TGP executive producer Michael Davies told reporters earlier this month that talks for a moment season had begun and that he deliberate to tweak the show's casting process. via New York Magazine ![]() The Queen of Comedy Returns!!! Posted on Thu, 11 Aug 2011 10:11 ![]() This has been a pretty big year for Roseanne. She released a book, has been going on every television talk show known to man, is saving the world with her nuts, movieed a highly successful reality show, signaled on for Chelsea Handler's new sitcom, gets her blog and her sometimes malicious tweets picked up by the media, is writing editorials, and is now running for President of the United States. Still, one shit the public has been wanting her to do that she has not done since 1997 is create and star in a new sitcom. Well, Roseanne has decided to do just that!! After bringing one 1990s ABC sitcom star, domestic Improvement's Tim Allen, back to primetime with a new comedy series, 20th Century Fox TV is looking to do the same for another, Roseanne Barr. The studio has signaled a script deal with the former Roseanne star for a half-hour comedy she will co-write with her boyfriend Johnny Argent. The project, titled Downwardly Mobile, will explore the same territory as Roseanne, revolving around an optimistic blue-collar family living in tough times. Search is underway for a showrunner to board the project before it is taken out to the networks. Barr and Argent are executive producing with Steven Greener who also executive produces Barr's Lifetime reality series Roseanne is Nuts. There is no doubt she won't be hiring Chuck Lorre (creator of "Two And A Half Men") for this new show, a guy whose career she started, and now trashes ever since the Charlie Sheen fiasco. I hope she pulls a "Lucy Show" and gets Laurie Metcalf (Jackie in "Roseanne") to return, as well as Sandra Bernhard! Lucille Ball brought back Vivian Vance (Ethel Mertz in "I Love Lucy") in her moment sitcom, "The Lucy Show". Why can not Roseanne do this? Does anyone remember that Joseph Gordon-Levitt used to be on "Roseanne" back in the day, and the time Edina and Patsy showed up at a party? Barr said: "You know Jay, I decided that since you are the one that got Arnold Schwarzenegger elected as governor of California, that I wanted to make my announcement here on your show because I really wanted to ask for your support. "The reason [former executive producer] Susan Winston was fired following only two weeks on the job was because she changed something during a segment that created a guest unconsolationable," says the insider.
